Hanioti (Haniotis)

Hanioti is 109km from Thessaloniki and 66km from Poligiros. Chanioti is recorded as village already by the 18th century and until 1953 it was found in the hinterland of Kassandra roughly two kilometres from where it is today.

The only things that are remaining from the old village are a few ruins of a church and houses. In the place that the new village was built were found traces of buildings from the classic and plaeochristian periods. Perhaps these antiquities are related with the small ancient city, Aigai, that was found somewhere in the region of Chanioti and neighbouring Pefkohori.
